Abstract

This movie is an intellectual investigation on the cultural and religious identity of Europe. Today, Europe is an ideological battlefield: the rejection of the European Constitution, the admission of Turkey into the EU, the comeback of religion into the public space, the isolation of secular and humanist people. On the one side, the strong comeback of religious people who have been scheming around the Brussels institutions for years in order to unite Europe under the Christian cross, on the other side, secular people from all places, who try to resist the influence of faith in the European public space. For a number of EU countries, Europe is defined by its Christianity. Would France have become a mere island of secularity? Have European Christians engaged into a new crusade? Why do secular people, who are overwhelmed in Brussels, only resist in France to the influence of lobbies? Behind the battle of words, one will find very down-to-earth stakes that concern all of us and which this movie will put into perspective through powerful sequences from Bavaria, Le Puy-en-Velay, Brussels and Istanbul. This film plunges at the heart of this battle.
